Maybe I've just been inured to it. It's probably better than Alien: Covenant and scarcely worse than Wonder Woman, which iirc I looked at around the same time, and they of course have the same blockbustery issues.

It is a pity Universal couldn't figure this one out, though, ain't it? Warner's did with Godzilla!Hunter Allenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10925220178171355473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4633480297352890314.post-19349716446458074372019-03-07T21:07:43.456-11:002019-03-07T21:07:43.456-11:005/10 seems generous. So much of the action with the zombies (? re-animated dead?) was dark and blurred that it was lost for me. I'm in agreement with all of your criticisms, though I don't see how they can leave a 5/10 when added up. The potential of the characters and the over-all "franchise" is immense but this and Dracula: Untold have murdered it I fear. It will probably be quite some time before a new attempt is made. Which is a shame. Every Halloween TCM does a great run through of the classic Universal movies as well as quite a few others with the same concepts and occasionally characters. While I thoroughly enjoy them, now it is also tinged with the sorrow of knowing that the chance of them coming back is still far in the future. It's the statement that Edward Hyde isn't a Universal Monster. But he is, and 1953's Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde proves it (Jekyll was even played by Boris Karloff). Did anyone involved in The Mummy '17 know this? Quite possibly not.

Either way, I can't express how bummed I am that this didn't make its way into the 30-film Universal Monsters Legacy collection. I like the Abott and Costello Meets series.

P.S.: I really need to see Lifeforce one day.Hunter Allenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10925220178171355473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4633480297352890314.post-70777584691730370322017-06-23T15:29:27.510-11:002017-06-23T15:29:27.510-11:00Love that poster tagline and the idea of Cruise ta...Love that poster tagline and the idea of Cruise taking "The Mummy" movies' traditionally female role. Or is that down to the writers ripping off Tobe Hooper's "Lifeforce"? Tom "Jack Reacher" Cruise is an artist of the closeted high-concept, if nothing else:
http://scrc.blogs.wm.edu/files/2015/04/BramBlog01-733x1024.jpgAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
