I saw the Jaws sequels on sale recently and said, "Isn't there room for one more retrospective I can start and not finish for months or years, if ever?")

But, yeah, I mean, all of those movies could have been perfectly fine.Hunter Allenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10925220178171355473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4633480297352890314.post-31885086011257527572023-11-14T13:09:33.621-11:002023-11-14T13:09:33.621-11:00You might be onto something. I agree with almost all of your high level takes on the series. Despite offering basically the same rating for Part 8, I actually depart with you on your specific take -- I found the garishness of the NYC stuff to be tastelessly fun whereas the boat stuff was a bit more dull. It really seems like this wants to be three movies in one: F13 on a boat, at prom, and in the scary city.dan shttp://thegoodsreviews.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4633480297352890314.post-31956429492955040682022-11-11T13:25:35.030-11:002022-11-11T13:25:35.030-11:00I'm 99% sure the "intestines" in the...I'm 99% sure the "intestines" in the first kill are actually rubber tubes that are commonly part of spearguns. However! I've always had the sneaking suspicion that that sequence was specifically shot and edited to create the mistaken impression that Jason had just pulled out the guy's guts, in a bid to get a seemingly graphic shot past the MPAA and get out ahead of the movie's relative bloodlessness, it being the first kill and all.Dafnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4633480297352890314.post-36165720856155933742021-10-28T12:16:59.007-11:002021-10-28T12:16:59.007-11:00I kind of like the colorful urban landscape, oddly...I kind of like the colorful urban landscape, oddly reminding me of (though prefiguring) Dick Tracy and especially Predator 2. There must've just been something about those couple of years.

The seething is of course mainly rhetorical. I'm glad I finally had the opportunity to sit down with the series! And even Part VIII is not *as bad* as some people make out I'll have to follow up with Jason Goes to Hell and the rest at some point.

I'm pretty convinced the franchise peaks with Part 2, though. I thought if there was anyone who could find something redeemable about it, it could be you, and I was curious what your take on it might be.

I particularly like the Day-Glo Vancouver nightmare vision of New York. It's the cinematic evocation of the city everyone's mother has warned them about.

The "Hunter has seen the 7 preceding movies" is just a silver lining to it all!Brennanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15399713449347559869noreply@blogger.com
